Fear

We sang this song in church yesterday. One of the lines is, my fear doesn’t stand a chance when I stand in your love. But, this isn’t how I sing the song. Nope.

As a believer in Christ fear is no longer an identity issue for me. I don’t own fear and fear doesn’t own me. A friend once told me, “when the enemy comes to your door with a beautifully wrapped package, write on it return to sender, addressee unknown.” This is how I view fear. It’s enticing because the enemy is crafty and deceptive and can be delivered by the devil at any moment.

Look, I don’t want to give too much credit to the enemy. The premise of this song is about God’s love, and I love this. However, words are important and they have spiritual implications once we speak them, even if spoken about someone and not to them, words can either build someone up or tear them down.

The tongue has the power of life and death

Proverbs 18:21a

I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,

Matthew 12:36

I enjoy this song and use my own words (not much different from the original), and sing, Oh fear doesn’t stand a chance…

Do I still experience fear, of course I do. But, when I stand in God’s love fear has to flee.

Shalom!
